20. Wild Card
Celebration of Lights
Every year, Southern Arkansas University puts on a big Christmas celebration called Celebration of Lights. The whole community is involved and there are events going on all day long. I work with the communications team on campus and we are heavily and largely involved in festivities all day long.
There are different things going on like "Story time with Santa and Mrs. Claus" and there are receptions and there's a parade and the day ends with the parade ending up on campus and Southern Arkansas University.
I get the honor of taking the Santa Claus pictures of all the children and their families with Santa. I took them last year and it was so much fun. The communications team is all dressing up in ugly Christmas sweaters and the President's Ambassadors are dressing up like Christmas characters and like characters from Frozen too to entertain all the children in line to get pictures with Santa.
It's such a fun day and a fun way for the community to really get involved with SAU. Whenever the parade ends, the night is kicked off with the entire campus being lit up with Christmas lights. There are usually snacks and receptions as well.
It's a great way to get involved with SAU and the community and it's a great way of intertwining the community with and bringing it to SAU's campus. It's one of my favorite traditions that SAU does every single year.
