University of Utah Student Kidnapping Case Turned Murder

Mackenzie Lueck
Earlier this summer, University of Utah senior Mackenzie Lueck went missing. She had been in her hometown of El Segundo, California. She had just gotten home after being away and having had traveled home to attend her grandmother's funeral. She arrived back in Salt Lake City around 1:00 in the morning on June 17, 2019. Upon arrival in Salt Lake City, Mackenzie immediately called a Lyft to get her back to the University of Utah campus. Later, the Lyft driver reported that when she got out of the vehicle she met up with an unnamed individual, put her bag in the vehicle, got in the individual's vehicle willingly and left. She did not seem to be in any sort of distress.

Upon further investigation, it was learned that the location she was dropped off at was Hatch Park by the Lyft driver. Again, she seemed to be in no sort of distress, recalled the driver.
Friends of Mackenzie reported that they had called her multiple times and started to get extremely anxious and worried for their friend when she did not respond. They commented on how unlikely it is for Mackenzie to not answer her phone.
Current news, as of August 2019, a 31-year-old man named Ayoola Ajayi has been arrested and charged on "suspicion of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping, obstruction of justice, and desecration of a body."

Ayoola had been seen using gasoline to burn something in his backyard on June 17th and June 18th. When a forensic investigation of the burn area was investigated, personal items that were likened to those of Mackenzie were found. Ultimately, female tissue that matched Mackenzie's were also found.
Interestingly, investigators have found out that Mackenzie and Ayoola were in contact the day before the kidnapping and ultimately murder of Mackenzie. Furthermore, it was discovered that Ayoola has actually been banned from the campus of the University of Utah since 2012, without a police escort.
Mackenzie was what dubbed a "sugar baby" to Ayoola. A sugar baby is someone who receives cash, gifts or other financial benefits often in exchange for some kind of arrangement such as sex. Usually the "sugar daddy" is older and wealthier. She reportedly had been boasting about being a "sugar baby" to at least two different unknown men from Tinder weeks prior to her death. She supposedly was constantly searching for men approximately 35-years-old to be her "sugar daddy"

Devastatingly, this sort of arrangement is reported to be what ultimately lead to her untimely death.
