Every year, Southern Arkansas University hosts a day full of events and traditions leading up to a big football game. This day is celebrated and lovingly deemed 'Family Day.' Parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends travel from all across the state of Arkansas and even from other surrounding states to join their student for the events of Family Day.
Greek Canoe Race

Family Day starts in the morning and it kicks off with an organizational fair. Organizations affiliated with Southern Arkansas University can set up a booth if they like. There are even carnival rides and photo booths for families and kids to enjoy during this time.

The organization fair was set up in front of Blanchard. There were booths giving out free food, selling Family Day t-shirts, painting faces, and so much more. Families gather around this area to get to know the different organizations on campus.

The next event of the day was the infamous Bed Races. Every residence hall and student organization builds and decorates a bed on wheels and has 4 runners and 1 rider. They compete in a series of races and are only eliminated for the race when they lose two races. This year's race was the 39th annual race. University Hall won the bed race.

Mulegating
Shortly after the bed races, the Greek Canoe Race began, and this took place at the pond behind the Engineering building. The girls competed against the girls and the boys competed against the boys. Phi Mu won in the sorority division, and Alpha Gamma Rho won in the fraternity division.

Mulegating started after the canoe race and continued on all afternoon at the Alumni Center. There was food, a carnival ride, and plenty of baggo stations.

SAU vs Harding
The pep rally, lead by the cheerleaders and the band, began at 5:00. The game started after that at 6:00 and SAU played Harding

Every year students, the campus, and families look forward to this fun day-long event; it is one of the highlights of football season. Even alumni are sure to come back and visit on this day.
